This seminar at NYAD Institute will introduce the audience to the fascinating village of Jezirat Al Hamra in Ras Al Khaimah, and a walk back through time to explore the evolution of the community. The event will also highlight the practice of coral masonry, using geochemical dating techniques to develop an understanding of this history of these structures and calculating the type and volume of corals that had been mined from the sea to support the expansion of this early urban setting.

Jezirat Al-Hamra represents a unique archaeological and architectural asset for the Emirates; the talk will be concluded with a brief discussion on the future of this unique development. This coastal village is a mysterious cluster of over 500 buildings, all of which were abandoned over a half a century ago. These buildings are almost entirely constructed from coral, and the unique architecture is a snapshot of life in the pre-oil history in the Emirates.

Designed to explore 21st-century French luxury, an expression of French culture and to enter into a dialogue with the Emirati culture, Flânerie Colbert Abu Dhabi: French Luxury in the 21st Century celebrates the close relationship between France and the United Arab Emirates.

Flânerie Colbert Abu Dhabi: French Luxury in the 21st Century, is placed under the patronage of the Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak and the French Minister of Culture, Franck Riester.

The French luxury sector combines intangible heritage and creativity. The cultural dialogue by the Comité Colbert aims to strengthen the bonds between the two countries through a series of events that centre around excellence skills and contemporary art.

84 French luxury houses and 16 cultural institutions will be featured during the duration of Flânerie Colbert Abu Dhabi: French Luxury in the 21st Century.

This unique series will feature four events at four different locations:

– ‘Savoir-faire Conversations’, House of Artisans, Qasr Al Hosn: Demonstration of cross-cultural craft demonstrations, workshops of savoir-faire French luxury houses, talks and film screenings

– Celebrating 21st-century French Luxury: Luxury Houses Showcase, The Galleria Al Maryah Island: A dedicated path through the mall that will highlight the combined creativity of teams from French luxury houses, including collective window and boutique displays, pop-up spaces, live demonstrations and in-store animations

– Abu Dhabi Art 2019; French Luxury and Contemporary Art Talks, Manarat Al Saadiyat: Talks on French luxury and contemporary art by speakers from prestigious French luxury houses and cultural institutions

– 10,000 Years Of Luxury Exhibition, Louvre Abu Dhabi: The exhibition will showcase items from 21st-century French luxury houses such as Christian Dior, Chanel, Cartier, Balenciaga and Hermès and depict how different cultures have defined luxury

Al Liwa Tal Moreeb festival attracts the region’s most powerful four-wheel drives and bikers to face exciting challenges including a cars drag race, bikes race, motocross track challenge, camel race, horse race, classic cars competition and Moreeb track for freestyle drifting.

The highlight feature of the festival is the adventurous race to the top of one of the world’s highest sand hills – the Moreeb Dune, which means ‘Terrifying Mountain’. At over 300m high and with a 50° angle, the dune will be contested over various categories for a different car and bike types.

This festival offers a week-long celebration of UAE heritage with competitions and activities including bike riding and camping in the desert of Moreeb Dune.  Visitors and participants attending the festival and races are provided with all facilities and services to make camping and accommodations in the Moreeb Dune a unique and extraordinary experience by the organizers.
